Workshop - Creating inclusive dance spaces for young Deaf people (Cardiff)
Free Workshop for Professional and Training Dance Artists
Learning and exchange with Amber, includes Deaf awareness training with Jonny Cotsen
Over the last few years we have been developing our Quiet Beats project in Cardiff. We have been running tailored dance workshops for young Deaf people in south Wales.
As a hearing company we have been on a journey of learning and discovery working with the young people themselves, Deaf consultants and dance artists to develop these inclusive spaces and practices that centre the communication requirements for them to fully participate in dance workshops.
We had several conversations with dance colleagues who are interested in this work and the learning we have made. With this in mind we are offering a workshop in Cardiff to share our learning and developing practice. The workshop will include Deaf awareness training/insight with Deaf awareness consultant Jonny Cotsen and will be led by Dance Officer Amber Howells.
The sessions will cover:
Deaf awareness
How we developed Quiet Beats
Things we have learnt that we need to prepare for a workshop/class for young Deaf people
Things we have learnt and developed when leading a studio with Deaf participants
Different communication tools in a dance studio
Q&A
Sunday 19th Jan 10:00 - 14:00
Rubicon, Cardiff
BSL interpreted
Made possible with funding by Arts Council of Wales.
