Jones Bach

“She has come home very happy every day and clearly having enjoyed herself. It was great to see her personality come out through a performance piece.….she has already asked to do it again next year.”

Jones Bach is one half of our Young Company and is based in North Montgomeryshire. After many years just as an annual summer school for Gwyn Emberton Dance, we expanded the project to run over three half terms and one summer school over the last 12 months. This has been possible with funding support from Arts Council of Wales and National Lottery.

The summer school will be at the beautiful Gregynog Hall from the 5th to 9th August. It is extra special this year, in that we have a guest professional choreographer Rebecca Long who create a brand new work with the participants which they will perform to family and friends at the end of the week. Rebeccea was chosen by Jones Bach participants during the last workshop week in May half term for a selection of four well known dancers from all over the UK.

Jones Bach is suitable for young people ages 8 years and upwards. No experience is necessary but just a desire to dance and have fun in a very supportive and nurturing creative environment.

There is no obligation to stay for the whole week with participant being able to sign up for many days as they like.

Depending on who has signed up we will either run 2 sessions with 8-11 yrs invited for the morning and 11-16yrs invited in the afternoon. If there are less older ones able to attend the afternoon we will run one longer session for everyone. The groups will be divided for some tasks based on their ages, so everyone has a rich experience suitable for their age and experience.

You can sign up below!!!

JONES BACH in the future

Funding dependent we aim to run the sessions for a second year and will trial running sessions one Saturday or Sunday a month throughout the year and culminating in a summer school and small performance as usua. We welcome your feedback on this structure.

The History of Jones Bach

JONES BACH - the dance workshops for young people in and around Newtown have been going for as long as Jones the Dance (which was formerly known as Gwyn Emberton Dance). Since 2014, JtD has run its annual summer dance programme for young people from 7 to 18 years of age, in Newtown, mid Wales, with The Hafren and for a few years with Ballet Cymru. We have had teachers from all over the world such as Sweden, Italy and Spain teach on the summer schools with participants being local and also coming from as far as Cardiff, Shrewsbury and Aberystwyth.
