Jones Bach Summer School

£5.00

We are excited to celebrate the end of the first year of our newly expanded version of Jones Bach with an extra special summer school which will be hosted in the wonderful house and gardens of Gregynog Hall near Newtown.

Who will you be working with?

In May this year the current company got a day with 4 prospective Choreographers from across the UK and then selected their favourite to work with them this summer. This was not an easy decision,  but we are excited to announce that Rebecca Long has been selected.

Rebecca is a dance artist originally from South Wales. She graduated from Trinity Laban Conservatoire in 2021, joined Rubicon Dance Company for a year after and has since been based in Brighton working as a freelance dance artist. She is passionate about educating and inspiring young dancers. Rebecca will be supported during the week by Dance Officer Eli Williams.

What will it be like and what will happen?

You will start each morning with a contemporary-based class to get you warmed up and ready for the day. There will be games, improvisation and set exercises within each class.

During the rest of the day you will explore different creative tasks and choreographic phrases to build a piece around the idea of self-reflection.

It will be a collaborative process bringing everyone’s personal ideas and experiences together. You will be using props and exploring the amazing gardens and woods at Gregynog Hall.

The week will be all about having fun, being creative and learning new ways of moving. At the end of the week you will have a chance to perform the piece in front of family and friends at Gregynog Hall.

What ages is it for?

We will  run one session for all ages 8-14 years from 10am-3pm each day.

As we have two really experienced teachers we will be able to split you up so that you will be working with other dancers of a similar age on tasks.

Do I have to come all week?

We would love you to as this way you will get the most out of it but you don’t have to. You can join for one day or all five days.

On Friday there will be a performance of the work created, you might have a smaller role in the final piece if you only come for some of the week as you will need time to practise.

I want to come but I feel a bit nervous.

It is scary for all of us doing something new for the first time. You might be worried that you won't know anyone, or you might be worried about not liking it. We are the most supportive and welcoming group. We want everyone to have a happy time, to flourish, to feel supported and valued. If you are intrigued but a bit worried about any aspect of these workshops then please let us know so that we can make suitable adjustments. You may like to just commit to the first hour while parents wait for example to see how you like it. There is never any pressure to stay if it isn’t for you. In this case we will refund your fees.

Although… We think once you get started you will love it!

How much does it cost?

The sessions cost £5/day or £25/week. This is EARLY BIRD DISCOUNT PRICE. From 19th July prices will increase to £7/day/£35/week

What if I can’t afford it?

We will never turn anyone away because they can’t afford the week. Please get in touch with our producer Kama on info_and_admin@jonesthedance.com and she will arrange a bursary for you.
